Student Evaluations-
Instructor's Response to Student Comments
ACCT 251
Fall 2001
Overall, I was very pleased with my first term with this course at CWU, especially with the student response to my teaching methods and style.
I modified the course for the Winter 2002 quarter, based on feedback from the first quarter evaluations.
I added a second midterm exam. Although the quarter system puts a premium on time, I believe it is more important to reduce the coverage of the exams.
I added chapter quizzes to the assignments to give students one more avenue for testing their comprehension on a timelier basis.
I am going to require that students display greater mastery of Excel. Although my goal is to use spreadsheets to help them master accounting, I noticed that they were not exploiting Excel’s power, through the use of formulas. Future grading will be based on their ability to demonstrate mastery of the spreadsheet.
I am concerned about the course text. Notably, it is woefully deficient with respect to the number of end of the chapter problems that it provides and many of my students expressed their desire to see more representative problems demonstrated in class. The current text makes it more difficult to respond to this desire.
