Student Evaluations- Instructor's
Questionnaire
Fall 2002
In what ways could the course instructor improve how he teaches the course?
Its a good course how it is.
he's pretty unpredictable for an accountant... seriously though, 8AM is too early for anything related to accounting.
I found that while the use of the website was very effective, I did not like how the course was a little unpredictable. How at times assignments moved and if I was not checking the website daily I would miss items. I prefer to use hte website as a reference tool, looking at it 3 or 4 times a week, downloading my assignments. At times I had other assignments due and had prepared myself to be working on other projects and I would need to change my study plans because things became due. While this did not happen very often. It was frequent enough to become a bit annoying.
The class overall was a great class.
Possibly mix up the lectures a little more to make it more interesting. For example more exercises and group work on examples from the book, but for the most part it was a good course.
I liked the way he taught the course and really don't have any complaints
I thought he was probably the best teacher i had so far....great at teaching a difficult subject
1. Have a power point printout book of class notes to buy from the Copy Shop rather then printing out so many pages. 2. Go over simple Eccel functions or operations to aid the first couple of assignments fustration.
I can't think of anything that I didn't like about this course.
Sometimes the class (esspecially the tests) seemed a bit unorganized.
Sometimes, the book provided very little instruction on how to do the homework assignments, so if you weren't taking notes, or weren't throughly paying attention, you'd miss out on how to do an assignment, and if that was the start of an assignment, you might mess up the whole assignment. I just happen to like using text not just teacher leacture to help back up homework assignments. Because at times, the text didn't provide much information, it felt more like we were being quized, rather then having homework assignments.
Even though I appreciate you fouling up the tests, because it helped my grade, they could be more organized.
Handouts/exams to the students should be looked over before given to the students. If the instuctor tells student to explore a part of the syllabus or anything else on-line the instuctor needs to do the same thing before asking students.
I would have more SI sections, I found some of the material dauting. He was always there to answer questions and such and that was great.
I was totally and completely impressed with the way the class was handled. I really have nothing but good things to say about Professo Tidd.
Email isn't always an effective way to retrieve homework. Computer problems happen and didn't get a chance to fix them. Computers aren't always reliable.
The chapters in the text are rather long. I have a busy schedule and try to read when ever I can. It would be helpful if the instructor would assign pages that he felt were important rather than entire chapters. There is so much information and for sum not enough time to swallow it all. Sometimes doing financial statements and ratios caused confusion, explanations the days before were slightly rushed.
I really don't have any suggestions, you handled everything very nicely, and I liked your approach to covering the material and how you organized your assignment website.
I like the way that students have to answer the question posed in order for the class to continue but at times this is very lengthy and not as much content can be covered in class. I really liked the homework because accounting is such a hands-on occupation that to truly understand the processes. More homework would be a great help, by making outside work worth part of the grade I think more students would do better. I like the crosswords for vocabulary building but some of the questions are worded poorly. Including the word in the question is one example. Perhaps a re-vamping of the questions would clarrify the term needed as well as the meaning of the term. Sometimes in class you can seem a little confrontational when posing questions. I don't mind this but some students are bothered by such behavior.
