Student Evaluations- Instructor's
Questionnaire
Winter 2002
What qualities or characteristics helped to make the course instructor effective?
I'll be honest Ron, at first I thought you were going to be a total asshole, but then I picked up on your sense of humor which made the class more entertaining and not so monatonous. Your very knowledgeable about the material which isn't always the case with some instructors. I appreciated your willingness to answer questions and make sure your answers were sufficient.
Knowledge of computers and how they influnce the world today...very few professors apply this knowledge to their courses. Accounting is all computer work in the field now days...glad to see someone teach it that way.
He knew what he was talking about, but he also openly admitted and appreciated being human and having fallability. Very thorough and methodical in explanations. Willing to answer questions, available for questions.
The powerpoint slides were very helpful, the visual aids helped me to apply the audio/visual learning which I thought helped to make a boring subject more interesting to learn. Consistency helped make the instructor effective, always being on time, and responding to emails (even if not always entirely helpful)
I think that trying to put some humor into an otherwise boring and monotonous task was a good thing. Just finding memorable ways to differentiate accounting procedures is really the best thing you could do.
He knows what he's talking about. Very confident with his answers, but never condecending. If you don't know the correct answer he will steer you in the right direction with his line of questioning.
The humor made the course a little bit easier to sit through.
You were a great Instructor Ron, I feel that your web page was very useful and effective.
the use of the power point with the lecture gave students the visual aid to help them understand. making the course grading balanced at not all valued on tests allowed me to stress out a little less.
The continuous powerpoint presentations helped me understand most of the material. the book was very dry and I often missed key points because of this. Ron had a great way of explaining and breaking down concepts that I understood.
I liked the way that Ron tought he used real day examples and it was very effective to me to have someone like Ron teach this class. He had alot of respect for his students and was a great guy.
Overall knowledge of the subject and ability to answer all questions raised in the classroom. Computer abilities allowed for homework/information to be transfered via the Internet, which was great. Instructor would answer questions via email whenever needed.
He was always full of energy in morning which made it easier to stay awake. He was really into his work. By that he was always there when you needed help and he made the class easier to understand with his web site and the power point slides/lectures.
At the beginning of class before going on to new material, you would often review and summarize the major concepts discussed the day before. These sessions were very effective. You seem to be particularly good at breaking down complex material into more easily understood conepts. Immediate feedback on homework, exams, and grades is also much appreciated.
