ACCT 484- Professional Writing &
Speaking for the Accountant The purpose of the communications assignments is to help you develop the communications skills that you will use in your accounting career. After you have completed the assignments and we have discussed them in class, you should be better able to prepare and deliver communications (including your résumé) that are appropriate for the different audiences that you will encounter in your career. There are two main types of communications exercises: written and oral. For the writing assignments, I will assign each of you to teams of two or three people (depending on enrollment) during the first week of the term. Each team must have members from both campuses. For assignments 1w - 4w below, the team members must help each other with the submission that each must make. For assignments 5w and 6w below, the team members must work together to submit one document for the team. The presentations must include a PowerPoint slideshow and each member of the team must speak. For the oral assignments (i.e., presentations), I will assign each of you to teams of two two or three people (depending on enrollment) during the first week of the term, for assignment 2p below. For that assignment, the team members must work together to submit one PowerPoint document for the team and deliver one presentation to the class. (All members of the team must present approximately a pro rata share of the presentation.) For assignment 1p below, each of you must deliver a short PowerPoint presentation to the class. The assignments are listed below are due before class on the scheduled due date, identified on the Daily Schedule web page. Generally, submissions must be via email and email attachments with the subject entered as "484 ComHwk ***" (without the quotation marks), where *** is the homework identifier. Thus, the email subject line for the first writing communications assignment for ACCT 484 would be: 484 CommHwk 01w. Refer to the course Email Policies and Procedures web page for additional information. Grading is based on:
