ACCT 484- Professional Writing & Speaking for the Accountant
(a.k.a., Communications, Computers and
Career Paths for Accounting Professionals")

Computer Assignments

The purpose of the computer assignments is to help you develop the computing skills and knowledge that you will use in your accounting career. The focus will be on the more advanced features in Excel, but you will also use Word, email, and web search engines. After you have completed these assignments and we have discussed them in class, you should be better able to use computer technology to collect, analyze and communicate accounting information.

The assignments are listed below with links to the detailed instructions for each. They are due before class on the scheduled due date, identified on the Daily Schedule web page. Generally, submissions must be via email and email attachments with the subject entered as "484 CompHwk xx" (without the quotation marks), where xx is the homework number. Thus, the email subject line for the first computer assignment for ACCT 484 would be: 484 CompHwk 01. You should bring printed copies to class so that you can make correcting notations when we review them in class.

Grading is based on:

  1. Your presence in class when we review the problem (no presence, no points).

  2. The completeness and accuracy of your submission.

  3. The timeliness of your submission in the prescribed manner.

Note that anyone who fails to use a formula where one is appropriate will receive a zero for the entire assignment. (In other words, it is not appropriate to use a calculator when working with what is arguably the most powerful spreadsheet application available.)
