Professionals Panel Discussions

The purpose of the professionals panel discussions is to help you examine the career paths that are available to accounting graduates. You will perform web-based research (WebQuests) into various career specializations then discuss their career paths with practicing professionals from around the State. After you have participated in the discussions, you should be more aware of the career options and opportunities that you have.

Each accounting professional who participates is being asked to provide a copy of a current résumé so that you can learn about them and see examples of résumés. They are also being asked to address as many of the following topics as they are comfortable with and have time for:

• Their resumes

• The necessary skills and knowledge at entry and executive levels

• The typical career path from entry to executive level

• Necessary and desirable professional certifications

• The significant future challenges that confront them and those who follow their career path

• What they did right and wrong in their collegiate studies

• What the CWU accounting program did not prepare them for

• What was the biggest revelation (surprise) during the first year in their career

• The extent to which computer technology impacts their career

Grading is based on:

1. Your presence in class during the panel discussion (no presence, no points).

2. Your participation in asking questions of the panel participants.
