Secure Cyberspace- WebQuest | Facts | Issues | Authorities | Conclusion | Home | In the wake of the terrorists attacks on the World Trade Center on 9/11/2001, the U.S. government initiated a plan to strengthen the security of the U.S. Commonly referred to as Homeland Security, the plan emphasizes, in part, the need to secure critical infrastructure resources. The Internet is recognized as one resource that falls within the purview of Homeland Security. Because the Internet has become such a pervasive global resource and it has unique characteristics, the U.S. government has issued one policy document to guide all who use the Internet in a concerted effort to make it more secure. |
