Student Evaluations- Instructor's Questionnaire
Summer 2002

In what ways could the course instructor improve how he teaches the course?

I would have liked the assignments for the week by Friday. Since I work 40 hours a week I usually plan on spending all weekend doing the homework for the week. I find that it is very difficult to do assignments with short notice. I do not think that I learn as much because all I want to do is get it submitted before it is due. This class seemed confusing because I would try to do the reading for the whole week and the homework was for previous chapters, and it seemed like we were playing 'catch up'. This could have been because there was a lot of information to cover, and a short quarter.

I realize it was difficult to schedule so much material into such a short time frame. Things got alittle confusing at the end. I wish we had done some tax planning scenarios in class and then compared with others to see their spin on it. I think I would have gotten more out of the class. I didn't like the fact we didn't really go over the mid-terms. I wish I knew where I went wrong on some the questions. Again, I do feel better about the tax having taken his course, but there still so much to learn...

Have materials and homeworks available on the website at least a week ahead so students can have time to work on them in their free time instead of giving them about 2 days or sometimes a day in advance. This would be hard for students, especially working students who don't have much time during the week days to work on the homeworks.

Not that the instructor has control over the schedule, but in the event that these comments might be used to sway those who decide such matters, please consider that Summer quarter is shorter than others and because of the amount of information taught in this course, it might be better offered during another quarter. I couldn't help feeling that we just touched on the high points and there's a lot more information we were unable to cover. Please stick to the plan! All four of us at Lynnwood work full time, so we count on using weekends to complete most of our homework. Changing the schedule, and adding assignments with less than a week for us to complete them makes it very difficult for us. As the quarter progressed, we fell behind the original schedule. The tax research and other homework assignments that were originally planned to coordinate with the chapters we discussed didn't seem to connect well as we fell behind the class schedule. Successful completion of the final project required knowledge that we didn't gain until the end of the course. This left us with a very short time to complete the project. Working in teams exacerbated the time crunch, as our distance from one another combined with our varied work and personal schedules limited our ability to excel. Would you consider assigning an individual project or an exam for the final?

Post assignments, on the website, earlier in the quarter to facilitate non-traditional schedules.

I felt that the time was relatively short to cover the material. In my openion, it would be more benefitial to select fewer issues and go through them in more details.

dont send so many emails out, my hotmail account fills up way too fast.
