ACCT 580- Advanced Taxation Tax Planning Presentation The purpose of the tax planning presentation to help you integrate the skills and knowledge from your tax and non-tax courses into a viable tax planning strategy for an individual taxpayer, and to develop your abilities to communicate technical accounting information while you master course materials. After the presentations are finished, you should understand how to identify the important issues in a taxpayer’s situation, use good tax planning techniques to help the taxpayer achieve his/her objectives, and present that plan to a relatively unsophisticated audience. Since this is a cooperative learning task, you also should improve your abilities to work cooperatively, resolve conflicts, and manage efforts so as to accomplish your team’s goals. It is your responsibility to form teams of four people during the second week of the term. Each team must select one of the taxpayer scenarios. The assignment is to prepare a detailed tax plan for the taxpayer (your client) and present it to the class in a ten-minute presentation. You should view the class as your client, so you must deliver your presentation in an appropriate manner and tone. Each team is responsible for allocating the work fairly between the members, however, every team member must:
Each team must submit an executive summary of the plan (1 - 4 pages), copies of the PowerPoint slideshow, and spreadsheets to support the calculations of tax liabilities, present values, after-tax wealth, etc. All of these documents must be submitted to me as email attachments at least 24-hours before the presentation so that I can distribute it to the class before the presentation. Grading will be based on your ability to develop and communicate a plan that addresses the client's needs and goals. I will use the appropriate grading criteria listed on the Professional Communications Grading Criteria web page.
