Study Hints

You will be exposed to a vast quantity of information and knowledge. I provide the following suggestions to guide you on how to exploit the material to enhance your professional and personal growth:

  • Read the entire chapter in the main text before we cover it during class. This provides a broad but shallow awareness of the issues that will help you understand the classroom discussion and recognize when you have an issue that can and should be examined.

  • Attend class and update your lecture notes. This helps you focus on what I believe to be the more important concepts.

  • Work & think about the homework problems. They present an organization for the topic and, more generally, for accounting and business. Make sure that you compare your answers to the suggested answers.

  • Read and reread the portions of the texts, lecture notes, and homework problems that relate to the topics on the study list that I distribute before the exams. This should focus your attention on topics in the exam.

  • Review your exams. Compare your graded exam to the suggested answers and understand what your mistakes were and how to correct them.

These suggestions identify the minimal effort that an aspiring professional should exert.
