Excel Tax Planning Simulations

The purpose of the simulations is to help you integrate the text material and the organizing concepts that we discuss in the lectures, primarily those related to tax planning. After you have completed the simulations and we have reviewed them in class, you should have a better understanding about how to perform effective tax planning.

I have prepared computerized Excel templates that you must use to analyze the taxpayer's facts, given the tax law, and provide your conclusion to the related issue(s). They will be available from the course web-page or distributed as an email attachment.

NOTE: If you access the files from the web site you MUST download them to your computer before you work on them. Save your work frequently and definitely save it before you submit it to me.

The simulations are due before the beginning of class on the scheduled due date. The submission of the completed Excel file must be via email attachments with the email subject entered as "xxx Simulation yy" (without the quotation marks), where xxx is the three digit course number and yy is the simulation number. Thus, the email subject line for the first homework for ACCT 346 would be: 346 Simulation 01. The submission of your conclusion will be via the simulation's web-based input form (linked below). You should bring printed copies of your conclusion to class for our discussion and review.

Grading is based on:

  1. Your presence in class when we review the simulation (no presence, no points).

  2. The completeness and accuracy of your submissions.

  3. The timeliness of your submissions in the prescribed manner (as an email attachment to the correct email address with the proper subject line and as a web-form).
